Portland-based Hennebery Eddy Architects, which specializes in historic preservation and sustainable design, was selected to design Clackamas Fire District's new Fire Station 16. The station serves the Hilltop area of Oregon City, and currently is a 1970s facility which will be replaced.

The current firehouse sits at 19375 Molalla Ave., adjacent to the Lil' Cooperstown Bar & Grill.

Designs for the 12,000 square foot facility include space to house eight firefighters and the battalion chief, and will include a larger bay to house a new ladder truck as well as training space and activities.

"The Fire District is excited to be working with Hennebery Eddy Architects to design and construct our newest community fire station," said Fred Charlton, Fire Chief for Clackamas Fire District #1. "This station is critically important to serving Oregon City and will provide highly trained firefighters and paramedics to answer the community's calls for help when they call 911."

The general contractor is Emerick Construction.

The new Station 16 will be an efficient, flexible space that facilitates fast emergency response times and is adaptable to evolving firefighting protocols, staffing needs and technologies. The project is enrolled in the Energy Trust of Oregon's Path to Net Zero program, incorporating energy-efficient envelope design, passive cooling, daylight harvesting and photovoltaic renewable energy, making the facility more energy resilient.

Completion is slated for mid-2018.
