An exhibit that showcases the movie will be brought to Portland next year.Portland Art Museum has announced a planned exhibition for 2023 dedicated to "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio," the artist's first stop-motion animation film partly made by Portland's ShadowMachine and co-directed by Portland's Mark Gustafson.

"Guillermo del Toro: Crafting Pinocchio" will show June-September, 2023 at the museum, 1219 S.W. Park Ave.,

The movie is to be launched by Netflix on Friday, Dec. 9 after being screened at theaters — privately in Portland.

The exhibit, coming from the Museum of Modern Art, where it opens Dec. 11, is a celebration and exploration of the inventiveness, passion and artist cooperation that went into the making of the movie. The movie was 10 years in the making. Voice talents include Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett and Ewan McGregor with a soundtrack by Nick Cave and Alexandre Desplat.

"With 'Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio,' we had the unique opportunity to organize an exhibition during the active production of a feature film by one of this generation's most important filmmakers," said Ron Magliozzi, MoMA organizing curator. "The chance to observe first-hand how Guillermo and fellow director Mark Gustafson engaged with the craftspeople and artists under their direction inspired our selection and installation of the works on display."

The exhibit showcases collaborative art, craft and storytelling and features iconic creatures, set pieces, stop-motion animation technology and fantastical visual and sound elements.
