An eight-run first inning ignited the Hillsboro Hops to a 12-4 Class A Northwest League victory Saturday at the Everett AquaSox.
The opening series of the season for both teams has been a battle of which teams started fast. On Thursday, the Hops homered twice in the first three at-bats and went on to win. On Friday, the AquaSox got three runs in the first and went on to win.
The Hops got their big inning on Saturday on four hits, only one for extra bases, and they chased starter Cody Mobley after two-thirds of an inning.
Everett pulled to within 8-4 by the end of the sixth inning.
Hillsboro tacked on four runs in the eighth to take a 2-1 lead in the five-game series.
For the Hops, shortstop Yan Sanchez drove in three runs and was 2 for 6 with two runs scored, and center fielder Billy Endris scored three times and had two RBIs. Endris and Sanchez batted 1-2 atop the Hillsboro order.
Game 4 is 4 p.m. Sunday, with the finale at 11 a.m. Monday.
