Mitch Haniger and Daniel Vogelbach homer to back Mike Leake and relievers as Mariners start homestand

HANIGERMitch Haniger blasted a go-ahead three-run homer and Daniel Vogelbach followed up with a two-run shot — both in the seventh inning — as Seattle beat Oakland 7-4 Friday to begin a homestand at Safeco Field.

The Mariners (7-4) banged out 11 hits. Starter Mike Leake gave up seven hits and three runs while striking out four and walking two in six innings.

Hitters two through five in Seattle's lineup had good games. Jean Segura had two hits and two runs scored, Robinson Cano had a hit and three walks, Haniger had two hits and four RBIs, Kyle Seager went 3 for 4, and Vogelbach stroked the first home run of his career.

Khris Davis hit two homers for Oakland (5-9), and Matt Chapman also homered.

Davis gave Oakland a brief 1-0 lead in the first inning. Haniger's single and Seager's double drove in runs in the bottom of the inning. Chapman's two-run homer gave Oakland the lead again.

But, the homers by Haniger and Vogelbach put the Mariners safely ahead in the seventh inning, 7-3.

The teams play at 6 p.m. Saturday, with Marco Gonzales pitching for Seattle opposite Kendall Graveman.
