Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies are on paid administrative leave after Monday confrontation.

KOIN 6 NEWS - Chopper video shows a white pickup truck with a shattered window in the parking lot of a Burger King in Southeast Portland.A Multnomah County Sheriff deputy shot a wanted suspect in Southeast Portland on Monday afternoon.

POLICE PHOTO - Vasile William MantaThe subject is identified as Vasile William Manta, 36. He was booked on two outstanding arrest warrants for the charges of Attempted Aggravated Murder and Identity Theft.

Manta remains in critical condition at a local area hospital. No one else was injured.

According to the MCSO, at approximately 1:50 p.m. on May 14, Special Investigations Unit Deputies were searching for a wanted subject in the area of Southeast 100th Avenue and Southeast Washington Street in Portland. Deputies observed the subject parked in the Burger King parking lot.

In the process of contacting the subject, he placed his vehicle in reverse and rammed the deputy's vehicle. A deputy fired his weapon, striking the him.

The subject was taken into custody and provided immediate medical attention. He was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital with critical injuries.

Responding Portland police officers arrived and secured the scene.

The Burger King area was shut down for the on-scene investigation.

The involved deputy and witness deputies were placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard procedure in such incidents. The shooting is being investigated by the Portland Police Bureau and the East County Major Crimes Team.
