Sheriff: Men in van attempted to abduct teen
Men in a white work van attempted to grab a teenage girl as she walked home in Aloha around 1:21 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were dispatched to Southwest 185th Avenue and Farmington Road in Aloha after a teenage girl reported that two men in a white work van followed her as she walked home from the Albertsons store.
She described one man as being a Caucasian male in his early to mid-twenties, with blond hair and blue eyes. The other man was described only as a dark-skinned male.
The men offered the girl cigarettes and marijuana, which she declined. They followed her in the van as she continued walking. At one point, the van pulled close to her and one of the men reached out to grab her. She was able to run home and call 911.
At this time, it is unknown whether this incident is related to similar incidents reported in the city of Tigard on Jan. 3 and Jan. 11. Those incidents involved a similar vehicle.
The Sheriff's Office reminds the public — particularly juveniles — to take the following safety precautions when walking:
• Walk in groups.
• Carry a cell phone to be able to call for help.
• Wear bright or reflective clothing.
• Maintain a safe distance from cars.
• Do not approach strangers in vehicles.
• Report suspicious activity immediately to 911.
