After 23 years on the run, a 62-year-old man walked into the Oregon City Police Department and turned himself in, authorities say.
Wayne Arthur Silsbee was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10. He is suspected of sexually assaulting several young girls between the ages of eight and ten from September, 1995 to April, 1996 in Clackamas County.
"Silsbee was acquainted with each of the minor victims, having either babysat for them or taken them to various events," police say.
Silsbee now faces charges of first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a minor and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration.
The warrant for his arrest was first filed July 24, 1996.
The FBI joined the case a month later, in order to use federal resources to investigate the case. Federal fugitive charges, however, will likely be dropped as the case moves forward, officials say.
Silsbee was known to be living in Nebraska recently, and is also said to have ties to Springfield, Missouri, the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorodo, Arizona and northwestern Washington State.
Anyone who has had contact with Silsbee over the years is asked to call local police at 503-496-1616.
