Readers have their say on federal issues, including the border wall and the Green New Deal.

A letter to the U.S. House of Representatives

I highly recommend and request that you work with Rep. Maxine Waters and/or any other representatives that wish to assist with disclosing President Donald Trump's personal tax returns to help expose more of his continual lying to the American people.

We the people want Congress to access and release Trump's tax returns, and further want to enshrine it in federal law to compel all presidential candidates to disclose this information. If a person truly wishes to serve as our nation's chief executive, it is only fair that all Americans have access to a clear financial picture of what said person has done or is currently doing.

The Republican Party has shown by its actions over the last two to three years that it lacks the courage at best, or is willingly complicit at worst in their collective failure to challenge President Trump's lies, hate-mongering, and misrepresentations.

Democrats must now do the job the people of America voted them in to do during recent midterm elections.

In closing, I ask again as your constituent that you please do your part to support this effort and further the wishes of the citizens you represent.

Thank you for you/your staff's time and attention.

Proposals to seize land for border wall are illegal, unjust

I am very concerned that the National Butterfly Center located two miles inland from the border in Texas is being bulldozed in order to build President Donald Trump's wall. Some species of butterfly are facing extinction and this is not going to help!

More than 75 percent of the National Butterfly Center's land will be locked out of the center on the "Mexico side" of the wall.

They have not had an eminent domain offer to purchase their land. I understand part of the land contains Native American grave sites.

This action violates:

• the Endangered Species Act

• the Safe Drinking Water Act

• the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act

And that the land is being seized without any kind of due process is wrong.

I understand that funding for some parts of the wall was already approved, but Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden should know that this is not the way to do it.

Pacific University chaplain supports climate legislation

The Green New Deal is the kind of values-driven policy the United States needs to address the reality of climate change and to provide a hopeful vision of the future for America's children. It is a work in progress, and we can debate details, but the approach is much needed.

I hope the faith community works to promote this agenda. Climate change is a worldwide emergency and should be addressed as such. As people of faith, we have an obligation to care for Creation.
