MORE STORIES

When my husband joined the Gresham Breakfast Lion's Club he was going to be a 'quiet' Lion. His brother had long been a Lions Club member in Metairie, Louisiana and had asked Bob to join him on a trip to Thailand for the Lion's Club International Meeting.

Every journey begins with a single step, so began his journey to the Gresham Breakfast Lion's Club who meet weekly at 6:30 a.m. at the M & M Restaurant in Historic Downtown Gresham.

He traveled to Thailand, became familiar with all the kindness of Lions and Leos (there are 1.4 million members worldwide). The impact they have had on the world is significant. We encourage you to visit their website at lionsclubs.org to learn more about all the global causes they are impacting. All of this was very inspiring, but his shift from "quiet" to a "roaring" lion was seeing the big things this little Breakfast Lions Club does right here in Gresham. Everything from providing transportation for eye transplant donors to scholarships for local students, the Lions are there to help.

S,o at a recent meeting when our own Bob Avila, a.k.a my husband, my partner was named "Lion of the Year for 2018" you could hear us all roar with joy. He loves being a Lion and loves to think of creative ways to raise funds for their good works and yes, I think he sold a raffle ticket to everyone who crossed his path this past year!! All fun aside we are really proud of his efforts as a Lion but more so as the "Driving Force" behind Gresham Ford! Congratulations to our Lion of the Year and a big THANK YOU for all the Gresham Breakfast Lions do every day of the year for our community!
