A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while she was walking in Wood Village on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said the woman died at the scene after she was hit by a driver on Northeast 223rd Avenue shortly before 9 p.m, according to a KOIN 6 News report.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police identified the woman as 55-year-old Kristine Ann Cassidy of Fairview.

"We believe she was walking home at the time," said Wood Village Chief of Police Jason Gates.

MCSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Brandon White said the area is near houses and a shopping area, so it's not uncommon for people to be walking around there this time of night.

Northeast 223rd Avenue was closed between Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast Glisan Street during the investigation. The road reopened at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
