CLACKAMAS — Barlow's softball team finished off a big week of wins to sit alone atop the Mount Hood Conference after a 7-2 road win at Clackamas on a rainy Friday afternoon.

It was a day of homers for the Bruins with Lexi Geary sending one over the right-field fence for an early 3-0 lead, while Sammie Pemberton blasted a turn-and-watch solo shot to center with two outs in the fifth inning.

Clackamas cut the margin to two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Geary fired a strike through the top of the zone to leave the tying run frozen at first base.

The Cavaliers tried again in the sixth when Shaylee Monise sent a fly ball to right field, but Barlow's Savannah Darling moved in, flipped her glove over and came up with the catch at her waist to get the lead-off out.

"I was able to read the ball off the bat and saw it was coming in short," Darling said. "I wasn't sure I would get there, but I ran my hardest and got there in time."

Emily Virell gloved a hopper down the first-base line to retire the Cavs 1-2-3.

Barlow put the game out of reach in the seventh when Geary came up with her second home run of the game — this time a three-run shot that cleared the left-field fence.

"I hit it and my first thought was that there was no way I was going to hit two it a row," Geary said with a laugh.

The top three hitters in the Bruins' lineup, Alexa Bailey, Pemberton and Geary, combined to hit 5-for-9 (.555) and scored all seven of the team's runs.

"We got the momentum going early and after that we just stayed on a roll," Bailey said. "We played the game we are capable of playing."

Geary went the distance in the circle, striking out eight, while surrendering only three hits.

Earlier in the week, the Bruins shut out previously-unbeaten Reynolds 6-0.

"We hit a four-game losing streak over spring break, but these recent wins have our confidence building and building," Geary said.
