Brought to you by Jonathan Wisniewski - Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin (EVCOT) - EMERGENCY VETERINARY CLINIC INSIDER -

Jonathan Wisniewski - Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin (EVCOT) - EMERGENCY VETERINARY CLINIC INSIDERDr. Jo-Anne Frances (Backstrom) Wisniewski, born on February 18, 1952 in El Paso, Texas to the late Jean and Bert Backstrom, passed away at the age of 66 on December 29, 2018 in Sherwood, Oregon.

Jo-Anne graduated from Redmond High School in 1970, University of Washington in 1974, and Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. She worked as an emergency veterinarian at The Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin until retiring in 2018. Jo-Anne was a loving wife to the late John Arthur Wisniewski.

Jo-Anne was a dedicated small business owner. She started the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin in 1995 and was the sole owner at the time of her passing. The business grew from four employees to over eighty employees under her tenure. She was a compassionate and skilled veterinarian who put the needs of her employees first, often to her own personal hardships. She is survived by her son Jon Wisniewski (to whom she referred as her 'exit' strategy). She has passed on ownership of the business to her son. Jon will continue to own and operate the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin privately in her honor.

Jo-Anne was a volunteer swimming official; she began while attending swim meets with her son and continued to officiate until October of 2018. She played clarinet for the duration of her college career and was an equestrian throughout her life. Dr. Wisniewski loved all animals, except for snakes and other slithering creatures, but she especially loved her Irish Wolfhounds. She was fortunate enough to have many pets over the years, but Jon's Shih Tzu, Gizmo loved her more than anyone and guarded her until she passed at home.

Her greatest love and legacy were her late husband and son. She was extremely close with her son, they shared season tickets to the Portland Trailblazers for eleven years. Her attendance at basketball games initially began as an activity to enjoy with her son, but as her attendance increased so did her knowledge of the game, to the point that she was able to provide color commentary to Jon and other friends.

Jo-Anne was preceded in death by her brother Robert Backstrom and her husband John Wisniewski. She is survived by her son, Jonathan Alexander Wisniewski, and sister, Betty Jacks.

Donations in Jo-Anne's name to The John Wisniewski Endowed Scholarship in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington are welcome and appreciated. Friends and family can pay their respects at the wake, officiated by Jonathan Wisniewski, on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 12:00 to 8:00 pm at the Wisniewski residence: 15415 SW Broken Fir Rd, Sherwood, Oregon, 97140.
