Broadway Rose Theatre Teen Workshop to present 'Annie'
For The Review, Tidings
Teens in Broadway Rose Theatre teen workshop will present "Annie," playing for five performances Aug. 8 - 11 at the New Stage in Tigard.
This fully produced musical is written by Thomas Meehan, with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin and is based on "Little Orphan Annie" by permission of The Media Tribune Services, Inc.
In the depths of the 1930s, Annie is a fiery young girl living in an orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago, Annie briefly escapes to the wondrous world of New York City, befriending loveable mutt Sandy before being returned to the orphanage. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, and her seemingly hopeless situation turns sunny when she is selected to spend Christmas at the residence of the billionaire Oliver Warbucks.
Annie is the perfect family musical, and features some of the greatest musical theatre hits ever
written, including "Tomorrow," "Hard Knock Life" and "Fully Dressed."
The intensive three-week training workshop is designed for young performers who are serious about pursuing musical theater in high school, college or professionally. Focused on building real-world experience in a professional setting, the 39 participating students will rehearse and mount a full-scale production of "Annie." The workshop is directed by Isaac Lamb with musical direction by Jon Quesenberry.
Performances will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday with one evening performance at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. All performances take place at the New Stage, located at 12850 SW Grant Ave. in Tigard.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for ages 2-18 (children under two years of age sitting on parents' laps are free) and can be purchased by calling the Broadway Rose box office at 503-620-5262 or online at www.broadwayrose.org.
