Senior performance is 'Raising the Standards' at Alpenrose
For The Review, Tidings
Northwest Senior Theater (NWST) will present a spring show, "Raising the Standards," at Alpenrose Dairy Opera House, 6148 Shattuck Road in Portland at 2 p.m. daily May 15 through 18.
The show is a revue of the Great American Songbook featuring songs from the 1920s through '50s — some of which have maintained their popularity for almost 100 years.
The program includes songs with catchy tunes, lyrics which rhyme or tell a story.
Most are from Broadway productions or Hollywood movies, written by the likes of Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, Al Sherman, Johnny Mercer, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin.
Tickets are $10 each available at the door.
NWST is a group of experienced (55 and older) singers, actors, dancers, musicians and production folks who still thoroughly enjoy performing.
The group develops two new professional-quality musical variety shows each year, complete with costumes, scenery, choreography and lots of music.
