Attend artists' reception; hear Spanish classical guitar; get a reading list for the summer

Looking for something special to do this weekend and into next week? Check out this list of entertainment events. Many are free and most are family-friendly.

June 7 (5 to 7 p.m.) — Attend an artists' reception for The Art of Quilting at the Arts Council of Lake Oswego, 510 First St., Lake Oswego. Explore the diverse techniques and artistry reflected in contemporary quilting through a journey of color and inspiration. Free and open to all. Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at TPB studio.

June 7 (7 to 9 p.m.) — Wayne's World Coffee House concert at Lake Oswego United Methodist Church, 1855 South Shore Blvd., Lake Oswego. Concert features Kris Deelane, Ed Haynes and Wayne Richards. Admission is free; donations gratefully accepted.

June 7 (8 p.m.) — Hear Spanish classical guitarist Andrea Gonzalez Caballero in concert at Eliot Chapel, 1011 SW 12th Ave., Portland. Tickets start at $19; order online at usclassicguitar.com.

June 7, 8 — The Portland Ballet Career Track dancers present "Up Close," a showcase of iconic ballets and showcasing their own choreography. Three performances are planned; 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at TPB Studio, 6250 SW Capitol Hwy., Portland. Tickets start at $10. Call 503-750-3157 or visit theportlandballet.org. Take the whole family to Midsummer Fair, the Scandinavia celebration of summer, taking place June 8 at Oaks Park.

June 8 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) — Join in the 91st-annual Portland Scandinavian Midsummer Festival at Oaks Park, 7805 SE Oaks Parks Way, Portland. Food, games, crafts, vendors, beer and wine garden, music and dancing. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for students/seniors or $17 for family of 2 adults, 2 children. June 8 (noon to 4 p.m.) — Attend Magic in the Mountains, a Chehalem Mountains Wine Tasting taking place at The Allison Inn and Spa in Newberg. Tickets are $45 in advance online at magicinthemountains.com or $55 at the door. The Allison is located at 2525 Allison Lane in Newberg.

June 11 (6 to 7:30 p.m.) — Attend the launch event for WLLO Village program, to help seniors age in place at Oswego Heritage House, 398 10th St., Lake Oswego. RSVP by calling 503-479-8393.

June 11 (7 p.m.) — Get your TBR (To Be Read) list together for summer reading at the Summer Reading Preview event taking place at the Lake Oswego library, 706 Fourth St., Lake Oswego. Librarian Chris Myers will share new and forthcoming books you may want to read this summer.

June 12 (1 p.m.) — Singer/songwriter Gary Ogan and keyboardist Brian Rose will sing original songs and covers from the '70s at the Lake Oswego library, 706 4th St., Lake Oswego.

June 12 (6 p.m.) — Jerry Garcia Birthday Band live instore performance at Music Millennium, 3158 E. Burnside, Portland. Garcia Birthday Band is a group of veteran musicians interpreting and celebrating the vast repertoire of the late Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead. Concert repeats at 8 p.m. June 14 at Aladdin Theater. Tickets available at Music Millennium, 503-231-8926.
