Every Wednesday, we'll whet your police log appetite with the week's best entries.

The Lake Oswego police log is, shall we say, rather popular. We even made a book out of it a few years ago, and people still come into the office in search of a copy.

So with that in mind, we present the Bite-Sized Blotter — a Wednesday sneak peek at the week's calls before the whole log posts Thursday:

7/5 10:57 p.m. A suspicious looking man was seen trying to get into an apartment through the back balcony near the 10 block of Jefferson Parkway. He said he lived there, but was "just drunk." Police confirmed it was his residence and he went to bed.

7/6 2:54 p.m. A suspicious looking person was walking slowly and seemed to be scoping out houses near South Shore Boulevard and Fernwood Drive. He was also seen picking a berry.

7/7 3:28 p.m. A man was looking in cars and "begging for money" near the 16300 block of Boones Ferry Road. He was a college student looking for gas money.

7/9 12:30 p.m. A resident representing a neighborhood association said there was a house near the 300 block of A Avenue that was becoming rundown and they needed assistance. Police found the yard was "fairly well-maintained" and there were no code violations.

7/10 4:37 p.m. A caller said a neighbor caught her cat and gave it to someone else. The cat was returned.
