Youth Football: Pacers JV team finishes with win over South Salem
Lakeridge JV 7th 14, South Salem 0: The Pacers' season came to an exciting and victorious conclusion with a 14-0 win over South Salem on Saturday.
Running backs Ben Jones and Everest Lentz ran the ball hard throughout the game with multiple first downs in the opening half. Quarterback Gabe Motschenbacher connected with Tashi Crofut for a 68-yard touchdown pass and Keaton Emmett successfully added the extra point.
Another long bomb by Motschenbacher to Cole Holum put more points on the board for the Pacers, but the Saxons' defense was able to block the ensuing PAT.
The opposing team's offense fought hard to move the sticks downfield, however, strong defensive efforts by Kento Klassen, Jax Grable, Christopher Azari, and tackles by Joey Olsen, Charlie King, Jaden Swan, Lentz and Jones stopped the Saxons in the red zone at every attempt.
The second half was a battle of two extremely strong defenses. Neither team put any points on the board and traded interceptions early in the half. Keaton Emmett had a total of three picks for the Pacers, while Swan and Olsen had one each.
With the help of a relentless offensive line — including Azari, Dominic Washington, Joe Massari, Tim Price and Klassen — Jones and Holum were able to drive the ball down the field with long gains though they were unable to score.
Milo Portilla, Gabe Rockwood, Kennedy Cauley and Grady Baker provided hard-hitting tackles, and Emmett closed out the game with an interception in the Saxons' red zone with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter.
The team finished with an 8-1 record.
