In response, the Lakeridge boys cross country team stepped up with some big-time performances at the Meriwether Cross Country Classic at Meriwether National Golf Course in Hillsboro on Friday, Sept. 20.

The Pacers, led by senior Mathew Ragsdale's 27th-place finish and a 32nd from senior Aidan Strealy, helped Lakeridge run to fifth place overall with 239 points. Jesuit won the meet with 35 points while Sheldon was second at 108.

Among the other Three Rivers League teams in the field, Tualatin took fourth at 211, West Linn was 13th with 412 points and Tigard took 18th at 493.

"The team enjoyed competing at Meriwether very much," said Lakeridge coach Scott Spear. "The large number of athletes really helped pull the team over the entire course."

The day's top five individual finishers included Parkrose's Ahmed Ibrahim (first at 15 minutes, 5 seconds), Forest Grove's Quincy Norman (second at 15:06.30), Jesuit's Ryan Schumacher (third at 15:33.70), Jesuit's Sam Curran (fourth at 15:35.20) and Tualatin's Andrew Payton fifth at 15:41.70, but Lakeridge's best weren't far behind.
