Stafford hosts stem cell therapy lecture

The Stafford Retirement Community will host a free informational seminar on stem cell therapy, considered to be on the frontier of regenerative medicine, at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, at The Stafford, 1200 Overlook Drive, Lake Oswego.

Food as Medicine Everyday classes to begin

The Food as Medicine Institute at the National University of Natural Medicine will start a summer Food as Medicine Everyday (FAME) series July 18, meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, through Sept. 5. The weekly sessions include demonstrations of selecting and cooking healthy, whole foods, nutrition education and hands-on cooking with naturopathic physicians and nutritionists. A copy of the "Food as Medicine Everyday" book and free whole grain or legumes from Bob's Red Mill are provided each week.

'Family Feud' to hold Portland auditions

The popular "Family Feud" game show will hold tryouts in Portland July 27 and 28. Those wishing to audition should apply online at to schedule it.

Families are encouraged to include pictures or videos with their application. Videos should include at least five family members. Briefly identify yourselves, tell where you're from, and feel free to use props, costumes or anything else to stand out.

Help pack shoes for schoolchildren

My New Red Shoes invites all to help with the Pack for Pride volunteer event from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Multnomah Athletic Club, 1849 S.W. Salmon St., Portland. Volunteers are needed to pack and sort new shoes for local students to prepare for the upcoming school year. This is a family-friendly volunteer activity.

Donations of cash or new athletic shoes in any size — from child size 8 through adult size 12 — are appreciated.

Volunteers needed for OC Festival of the Arts

The Oregon City Festival of the Arts will take place Aug. 10 and 11, and volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways.

Duties include helping artists set up Friday, Aug. 9; assisting artists prior to the festival opening from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and during the festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers will greet visitors, pass out tote bags, help with the silent auction, distribute snacks and water to artists, and more.

The event features more than 60 artists, live music all day, hands-on children's art projects and more.

Vietnam War pinning ceremony planned

Humana, in partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Lawrence Alberti Post and Auxiliary #12140, will host a Vietnam War Commemoration Veterans Pinning Ceremony from 1-4 p.m. July 30 at Clackamas Community College's Gregory Forum Building, 19600 S. Molalla Ave., Oregon City. Veterans who served in active duty in the U.S. armed forces between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to participate in the ceremony.

The Art of Makeup hosting open house July 18

The Art of Makeup School will host an open house and special effects demonstration July 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the school located at 11830 SW Kerr Parkway, suite 211 in Portland 97035. A Summer Makeup Camp will be held July 22 through 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school. Topics covered include corrective beauty, fashion makeup, special fx makeup, film and TV makeup. Registration fee is $375 and the makeup camp kit is $295.
