Junior Maddie Travis led the team with 16 points in the Lady Vikings' best offensive performance of the season thus far

Colton's girls' basketball team gave its best offensive performance of the season thus far in their 54-39 thumping of Sheridan at home last Friday to move them to 3-4 in the preseason.

Junior Maddie Travis recorded a team-high 16 points in the game that saw her nearly unable to miss as she sunk her shots from all over the court, finished with three 3-point shots, three 2-pointers, and a free throw.

"I think we shot really well tonight, and our defense motivated our offense; just all of us as a team helped out," Travis said after the game.

Colton took a 30-15 lead at the half after shutting down the Sheridan offense, but the Spartans began to pull things together in the third quarter by scoring six unanswered points in the first 90 seconds of the second half to bring the score to within nine points.

But the Lady Viks would respond as sophomore Madi Olsen sunk a pair of free throws followed by an and-one conversion from senior Grace James to stretch their lead again. At the end of the third quarter, Colton held a 42-32 lead after Madi Olsen hit a layup with a few seconds left.

Senior Katie Wills kept the momentum going with a three-pointer two minutes in to put the Lady Viks up 47-32 as Sheridan struggled to connect offensively. Colton then took an 18-poind lead after junior Jenelle Baker made one of two free throws, followed by a missed rebound putback by senior Brooklyn Olsen as James was able to get the second rebound and connect on the putback. That lead would keep for the remaining five minutes of the game as Colton grabbed the 15-point win at home.

"I think so far, we're coming together as a team well," Travis said. "We started off a little rough, but we're slowly going up now."

Colton will travel to Estacada on Tuesday to take on the Rangers at 3:30 p.m., followed by another away game at Portland Adventist Academy on Wednesday at 6 p.m. They'll get a week off before heading to the Regis tournament on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28.
