Jeffrey Thomas Hendricks was born on May 1, 1954 in Hillsboro, Oregon to Richard George Hendricks and Willa Marie Hendricks. He left this earth to be with Jesus, his Savior, on December 28, 2018 in Dallas, Texas.

Jeffrey spent an idyllic childhood living in Forest Grove. His children loved to hear the tales of his escapades around the neighborhood and close-by farms. Jeff graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1972. After a time at Oregon State University, Jeff met a young woman named Lena Jensen. Having only gone on one date, they became engaged and married on March 15, 1975. As this date was also the Ides of March, Jeff always joked that two good men died on that day – Caesar and himself.

Jeff and Lena went through difficult times in their first year of marriage. First, Lena was told she was unable to have children; shortly after that Jeff was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. However, their faith – joined together with the power of God – was unstoppable. Though Jeff was given only three months to live, he was miraculously healed by the power of God; completely cancer free overnight. The second miracle took longer to be realized, but after four years of prayer Lena became pregnant. In the years to come Jeff and Lena would have four children, each one a miracle from God.

In addition to their own children, Jeff and Lena welcomed many people into their home as a part of the family; over the years providing a home to 18 people. People who needed a family found their way into the home and hearts of Jeff and Lena. They will always be known for their generosity and intentional hospitality.

In 2006, Jeff and Lena moved to Texas where they both spent the rest of their lives. Jeff was preceded in death by the love of his youth, Lena, who died of complications stemming from early onset dementia in 2014. Not long after her death, Jeff began to have health complications. Jeff faced his declining health like he faced every challenge before: one foot in front of the other, never give up, never give in. Even though his heart condition did eventually cause his death, Jeff finished his race well. He pushed to the finish line with his family cheering him on. Jeff now stands in the throne room of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jeff leaves behind four loving children, Anna (Jason) Holland, Michelle Horne, Nathan (Airickah) Hendricks and Joshua Hendricks; and eight grandchildren, Marcus Coleman, Hailey Webb, Zachary Webb, Judah Holland, Sophia Horne, Kennedy Hendricks, Connor Hendricks, and Amos Holland. Also still living are his mother, Willa Worley; and two sisters, Brenda Rice and Julie (Bill) Ortman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Hendricks; father, Richard Hendricks; and brother, Rick Hendricks (Judy).

A memorial service will be held at the Forest Grove Elk's Lodge on April 20, 2019 from 1 – 4 PM. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that any gifts be given to the Jeff Hendricks Memorial Fund, which will be used to send orphan children in Kenya to high school. You can send gifts made payable to Joshua Nations at PO Box 745728 – Arvada, CO 80006.
