                Shirley May Newell, 57, a resident of the Gaston community, died Friday morning, April 26, 2019 at the St. Vincent Medical center in Portland.

                Private cremation rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove.

                Shirley May Newell was born May 3, 1961 in Grand Junction, Colorado, the daughter of Charles Francis Clemence and Carole Frances (Oviatt) Clemence. She was raised and received her education in the Forest Grove community, graduating with the Forest Grove High School Class of 1979.

                She was united in marriage to Nathan Ray Newell on January 26, 1980 in Beaverton, Oregon. They celebrated their 39th Wedding Anniversary this past January. Following their marriage they resided in the community of Forest Grove, until they moved to the Gaston community, where they have resided since.

                Shirley worked as a supervisor for Rite Aid for 15 years.

                Among her special interests, she enjoyed golfing, camping, knitting, quilting, cross stitching, gardening, skeet shooting, and caring for her pets Cole, Peanut and Andy. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family; she was the rock and soul of her loved ones.

                Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Charles Clemence.

                Survivors include her husband, Nathan Newell, of the family home in Gaston, Oregon; her children and their spouses, Natalee and Jeremy Monasmith, of Minot, North Dakota, Johnathan and Nikia Newell, of Beaverton, Oregon; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha Vanderzanden, of Brookings, Oregon, Debra and Paul Rensink, of Battleground, Washington, Cynthia and Kelley DeBock, of Powell, Wyoming; her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence Wesley and Annie Clemence, of Cornelius, Oregon. Also surviving is her one grandchild, Ava Newell, of Beaverton, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.
