'Man vs. Bear'
A Woodburn man, Steve Taylor, 63, will be the oldest competitor in the new Discovery Channel series "Man vs. Bear," which premieres at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Taylor and others will go up against grizzlies in challenges based off the bears' natural instincts and predatory skills.
Three grizzlies (Bart, Honey Bump and Tank) take on humans in their Utah sanctuary to test limits of strength, speed and stamina. There is a tug-of-war, tree climbing and eating contest involved. (Presumably it won't entail hand-to-claw combat).
"Think of it as 'American Ninja Warrior,' but with bears," publicity said.

Wahl Man of Portland
A bearded Portland man, Simon Ryan, is competing to be the Wahl Man of the Year.
Already the Wahl Man of Portland, Ryan is one of 11 delegates competing to be honored as having the best facial hair in the country. The prize is $1,500 and bragging rights. Voting is taking place on Wahl Grooming's Facebook page through Dec. 4.
"I have a weak chin, but a strong beard," Ryan said in a news release. "So, I don't ever plan on shaving, unless I magically grow a stronger chin with age."
