SATURDAY SPORTS NEWS/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association picks him as Coach of the Year

On the day of his team's first game in the College World Series, Pat Casey of the No. 1-ranked Oregon State Beavers has been named Coach of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Casey also was a Coach of the Year winner, by one publication or another, in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

He is in his 23rd year at OSU, after seven seasons with George Fox.

The Beavers are 54-4 and set a Pac-12 record with 37 victories as they led second-place Stanford by six games, the largest margin in the conference in more than 30 years.

OSU will take a 21-game win streak into Saturday's noon PT CWS opener against Cal State Fullerton at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
