The Rays left-hander is lifted with two outs in the ninth inning after allowing three hits and throwing 99 pitches in 1-0 win

YARBROUGHRyan Yarbrough allowed only three hits in 8 2/3 innings, and Eric Sogard hit a solo home run as Tampa Bay beat Seattle 1-0 Sunday to complete the three-game series sweep at T-Mobile Park.

Yarbrough (11-3) struck out eight and walked none on 99 pitches, including 73 strikes. The three Seattle hits were singles.

Still, Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash, playing the matchup game, lifted Yarbrough with two outs in the ninth inning as the left-handed pitcher prepared to face right-handed hitter Domingo Santana, preventing him from earning the complete game victory. Right-handed closer Emilio Pagan forced left-handed pinch-hitter Omar Narvaez to ground out to end the game.

Wade LeBlanc took over for an opener and gave up five hits and the Sogard home run in six innings. Sogard homered in the fourth inning.

The Rays (69-50) stayed in the American League wild-card race with the sweep. The Mariners fell to 48-71.

After an off day Monday, the Mariners open a nine-game road trip at Detroit, 4 p.m. Tuesday. Yusei Kikuchi (4-8, 5.34) pitches for Seattle opposite former Oregon State star Matthew Boyd (6-8, 4.16).
