Fleet Week ships slowly sail out of Rose City
Farewell, Fleet Week.
Eight U.S. Naval and Royal Canadian Navy vessels visiting the Rose City during Rose Festival and docked for about five days at Portland's waterfront, began departing Monday morning. Three downtown bridges were lifted between 7:30 and 10 a.m. as the ships sailed for the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean.
On Wednesday, June 6, Royal Canadian Coast Guard vessels Regina and Nanaimo sailed into town along with the U.S. Coast Guard's Steadfast, Bluebell and training vessel Ironwood for Fleet Week tours and events. U.S. Navy destroyer USS Michael Murphy, mine countermeasures ship USS Scout and the U.S. Coast Guard's Orcas arrived in Portland Thursday, June 7.
