Police shoot man with knife in Beaverton
Beaverton police shot a man reportedly armed with a knife near Jesuit High School early Friday. The incident happened around Southwest 93rd and Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, near Jesuit High School.
The name and condition of the suspect was not immediately released. The officers invovled in the incident are on paid administration leave, which is Beaverton Police Department policy.
According to Beaverton police, at approximately 8:31 a.m. on Sept. 7, officers responded to the 8500 block of Southwest Apple Way on a report of an adult male riding a bike while holding a large knife.
When officers arrived in the area, they observed a bicycle outside of the 7-11 store, located at 9145 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. As they approached the store, officers observed a man, who was later identified as the suspect, leaving the store. An employee informed officers the man had threatened the employee with a knife.
According to police, the man then entered the Bottle Drop, located at 9307 Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, while continuing to hold the knife. Officers entered the business, attempting to make contact with him.
The man then pulled a knife from clothing near the front of his chest, holding it in his right hand while facing the officers. He then exited a side door of the business. Officers outside the store attempted to make contact with the man, and eventually shot him.
Officers treated the mans wounds, and he was then transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The Washington County Major Crimes Team is responsible for the investigation. Investigators with the Major Crimes Team would like to talk with anyone with information regarding this incident, especially those individuals who were in the area of the 7-11 and Bottle Drop businesses.
