Carjacker looking for cigarettes injures driver
A Thursday morning carjacking in Northeast Portland injured the vehicle's driver.
Police said the carjacking happened before 7:16 a.m. Nov. 29, when a driver told North Precinct officers that a suspect climbed into his vehicle near Southeast 92nd Avenue and Holgate Boulevard, brandished a handgun and told the man to drive to the area of Northeast Cully Boulevard and Prescott Street. When they reached the area, the suspect told the victim to buy cigarettes at a nearby gas station. When the man and the suspect returned to the vehicle with the cigarettes, the suspect hit him with the gun, allegedly fired a shot and drove away.
The stolen vehicle is a red 2007 Ford Expedition with no license plates. The suspect is described a fat black man with a shaved head, wearing all black clothing. He was armed with a silver handgun.
Police said the suspect could be a homeless man who frequents the area of Southeast 92nd Avenue and Holgate Boulevard.
