All mail is being forwarded to the Corbett Post Office, 6046 E. Historic Columbia River Highway, Corbett.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) responded to a burglar alarm at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, at the rural post office at 47100 W. Mill Road.

Deputies searched the building and found no one inside, said MCSO Public Information Officer Brandon White. A K9 unit was called to track down suspects, but the dog was unable to find anyone. Police still have no suspects in the case.

It was unclear what was stolen in the burglary, but loss and damage incurred was enough to hamper operations at the facility. A postal service official declined to comment further because the investigation is ongoing.

A sign on the post office door read: "Due to a recent break-in, the Bridal Veil Post Office will be closed until further notice."

The 10-by-10-foot building is one of the smallest post offices in the United States, and the post office is Bridal Veil's last standing public building.

On Wednesday, Jan. 2, USPS Communications Specialist Ernie Swanson said crews are working to fix damage. He did not have an estimated time when the facility would reopen.

"The damage was significant enough to close the facility altogether," he said. "That's something we don't do lightly."
