Man flashing fake gun at Lloyd Center, police say
The Lloyd Center mall entered lockdown procedures — and Portland police arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly displaying a gun later determined to be fake.
Garrett Scott Gibson, 22, faces charges of menacing, second-degree theft, second-degree disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal trespass, according to court records.
Police responded to the Lloyd Center around 4:29 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 after the mall went into lockdown.
"Soon after officers arrived, the suspect came out of the mall, followed officers' commands, and was taken into custody without incident," police say. "The mall lockdown was lifted after a short time."
According to a booking document, Gibson was allegedly "flashing" and "waving " a gun — later determined to be a BB gun — at a mall security guard. Police say the behavior constituted a threat. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Gibson was identified as a transient in booking documents. He remains behind bars at the downtown jail at this time.
