PPB: Truck driver gives medics fake name after I-5 crash
A truck driver involved in an interstate crash duped local authorities by providing a fake name — and then fleeing the hospital before his alleged deception was uncovered.
The Portland Police Bureau responded to Interstate 5 around 5:14 p.m. on Oct. 31, after reports came in of a southbound crash near North Skidmore Street.
The crash ended up closing I-5 for hours, police say, after a Freightliner dump truck and a semi-tractor hauling an empty propane tank were involved.
First responders mobilized and the Oregon Department of Transportation closed the freeway after spotting diesel fuel leaking out of the Freightliner into the roadway.
The Freightliner driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital. But when North Precinct officers arrived at the medical center, the driver had already fled. Police say he gave doctors a fake name.
The other driver remained at the scene and reportedly cooperated with investigators. Freightliner trucks are manufactured by Daimler and are used by many shipping companies.
Anyone who recognizes the truck driver shown in the above photo is asked to contact Officer Jordan Winkel at 503-823-5700.
