The Sandy Mountain Festival is actively recruiting for a volunteer who will take responsibility for booking and organizing centerpiece music performances for the annual event in July.
Long-time Sandy Mountain Festival front stage manager Stan Sherer has stepped down to fully enjoy his retirement.
The volunteer who replaces Sherer will become part of the Sandy Mountain Festival Board of Directors. This year's festival is July 13-14.
"This is a key position for the festival," said Martin Montgomery, festival president. "The person in this role ensures continuous live music performances on the main stage over the course of the two-day festival."
There is a sense of urgency regarding this position, so the festival can begin booking bands before their 2019 schedules fill up. The festival typically books musicians in the blues and "big band" orchestra genres.
The volunteer for this position does not need to live in Sandy.
The front stage manager is responsible for:
• Contacting musicians and bands.
• Submitting the entertainment schedule to the board for review.
• Securing a sound system for front and back stages and parades judging platform.
• Ensures barricades are set out for entertainer parking.
• Stations themselves at the front stage during the festival to ensure acts arrive on time, that payment is given and to assist if any problems arise.
Like all festival appointments, this is an unpaid position. The Sandy Mountain Festival is a nonprofit organization that promotes the arts and raises funds for college scholarships for graduating Sandy High School seniors.
The festival board will provide training, backup and support for the new front stage manager as they learn the process.
Qualified applicants will be invited to an informal meeting with board members before an appointment is announced.
