Sandy bibliophiles, rejoice! Friends of the Sandy Library is preparing to host the second Wannabe Giant Bag Sale this upcoming weekend. You could walk away with an entire paper shopping bag of new-to-you books for half the price of your Netflix subscription.
Volunteers will be selling books of all genres for all ages 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 14, in the Sandy Public Library parking lot, 38980 Proctor Blvd.
Friends of the Sandy Library member Colleen Hoyt describes the event as a way for the group to give new life to "books that are too good to recycle."
"It's a good deal," she noted.
It's $5 to fill a bag from Fred Meyer or Safeway, and $7 to fill a bag from WinCo or Bi-Mart.
All proceeds help fund programs at the library, which are offered for community members of all ages and various interests.
The Friends raise funds through sales at the library bookstore as well as events and membership drives.
"With the amount of programing here every week, a lot of people come through here and don't even know we have a bookstore," Hoyt said.
"We support 99% of the programs at the library," Hoyt noted, including the First Friday library coffeehouse events, kids summer reading program events, and more.
The inaugural sale earned the Friends about $1,000.
"I'm hoping we do even better this year," Hoyt said.
