This is a topic that seems technical but isn't really. The

SLOPE, or pitch, of a roof is determined by the vertical

rise in inches for every 12 inches of horizontal length. 12/12 pitch means every 12" on the horizontal it drops 12"

vertically. 6/12 is 12" horizontally it drops 6" vertically.

The slope of the roof determines the type of roofing materials. A steep pitch roof can be roofed in shingles, metal, or shakes but a flat pitch roof requires different materials. Manufacturers of shingles allow installation down to and including 2/12 slope, but Pacific West Roofing will not install a shingle on a 2/12 slope. At 2/12 many of my competitors have installed shingles even on the peel and stick underlayment with problems galore. We choose to help the customer by educating them on the pitfalls of that choice. We have always been successful with this conservative approach.

For roofs with a pitch of 2/12 down to 0/12 Pacific West

Roofing uses a PVC membrane roof system which is an entirely different animal than shingles. Perfect for flat

roofs, this type of roofing has achieved an outstanding performance record.

Pacific West Roofing will install 3 tab or Patriot shingles

on a 3/12 slope with a peel and stick underlayment to seal all of the nails then at 4/12 we use standard underlayments.

Let the expert roofers at Pacific West Roofing walk you through all the options and help you make the right choice for your home.
