Portland International Raceway hosts free sports car races May 18-19
The Oregon Region of the Sports Car Club of America is holding sports car races at Portland International Raceway on Satuday and Sunday, May 18-19. Spectators get in free to watch the Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour.
On-track activities begin around 8:45 a.m. both days. Races will take place on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 12:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Super Tour event features about 100 Sports Car Club of America racers from throughout the western United States, including many from the Portland area. Drivers will compete on PIR's 1.979-mile road course, including the exciting Festival Curves chicane on the front straight.
Drivers in vehicles ranging from Miatas to Corvettes and sleek open-wheel formula cars will race for points toward a national series championship, and for an invitation to compete at the prestigious SCCA National Championship Runoffs in October.
Interested drivers may also enter the SCCA Track Night in America event on Friday night, May 17. This event allows track novices to drive at speed on the racing circuit with observation and coaching. More experienced drivers may enter the SCCA Time Trials National Tour at PIR on June 8-9. The Time Trials event also includes Track Night lapping sessions for novice drivers.
