And the Safety Shield 360 safety package is standard on every trum level. The Nissan Rogue is one of the most popular compact crossover SUVs in America, and the 2020 model year offers more value than ever before. Beyond the basics of a quality compact SUV, Nissan offers a compelling advanced safety package usually available only in premium brands.

The Rogue offers a standard compact crossover mechanical package. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is standard, and produces 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. Nissan pairs that engine with the Xtronic continuously variable transmission and your choice of front-wheel or all-wheel-drive. Most Portland drivers choose all-wheel-drive, as it adds only $1,350 to the purchase price and delivers confident traction all winter long.

On top of that, you can get a full birds-eye camera system and rear sonar with reverse automatic braking on higher trim levels.

The Rogue seats five adults in comfort, with a split rear seat that allows you to configure up to 70 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The seats are comfortable and available with leather upholstery in the higher trims. You can get the front seats and steering wheel with heat, which is also nice in a Portland winter.

Dashboard technology is up-to-date. You get a 7-inch touchscreen display with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smart phone support. That delivers navigation if you have a phone, but you can also get Nissan's onboard GPS navigation at higher trim levels. Sirius/XM satellite radio support is standard across all trims, and a Bose premium audio system is optional.

The big deal about the Rogue is its advanced safety and driver assistance package. Nissan's Safety Shield 360 comes standard on every trim level. This package includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, a rear-view camera, and automatic high beams. Most automakers charge extra for some or all of those features.

On top of that, you can get a full birds-eye camera system and rear sonar with reverse automatic braking on higher trim levels. Then there's the optional ProPILOT Assist package, which upgrades the standard cruise control to an adaptive system that will follow prevailing traffic speeds all the way to stop-and-go operation. That makes the Rogue an excellent commuter vehicle.

However, that's not all. ProPILOT includes enhanced lane keeping technology that will keep the Rogue centered in its lane on long straights and around gentle curves. You can push the button for ProPILOT and let the Rogue do most of the work. Just bear in mind that this is not a self-driving car. You must keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road at all times.
