West Linn softball sees players honored at eight spots for all-Three Rivers League honors
Every day, every game, every inning, every at-bat and every defensive chance, the West Linn softball team's best stepped up.
They battled, they made plays and they got hits when their team needed them most.
In response, the Lions' best were honored at eight spots on the 2019 Three Rivers League all-star teams, a group led by first-team selections Ali Campbell, Lexi Finke and Lexi Grein.
Campbell — a junior honored as a utility player — won her berth in the firdst team after batting .406 and finishing with 12 RBIs and eight runs scored in TRL play, with four doubles, one triple, one home run and an on-base average of .525.
"She can block balls whether at first base or catching," said West Linn coach Monica Sorenson. "She has a golden glove and a great attitude. … She was clutch this year."
Finke — a senior pitcher — went 1-4 in league play, throwing 41 1/3 innings and allowing 65 hits while striking out 13, walking 13 and posting a 5.42 earned run average. Grein — a junior infielder — earned her spot after batting .316 and finishing with 10 RBIs and seven runs scored, with three doubles, two home runs and an on-base average of .409.
Also honored from West Linn were: freshman catcher Ava Sin, second team; senior outfielder Gracie Hook, second team; junior outfielder Lauren Amesquita, honorable mention; sophomore infielder Ava Peters, honorable mention; and junior pitcher Delaney Southards, honorable mention.
Sin made her debut season in West Linn a keeper, batting .487 as the Lions' leadoff hitter and finishing with nine RBIs and nine runs scored in TRL play, with three doubles, one triple and an on-base average of .600. She was tough defensively, too, fielding at .970 with just one error while adding four assists.
"She came in and became the starting catcher with an amazing arm and willingness to learn," Sorenson added. "She earned being our leadoff hitter and handled that pressure by being our top hitter."
