Freshman Arthur Venderby is named to the first team after placing third in league

PMG PHOTO: MILES VANCE - West Linn freshman Arthur Venderby made his first Three Rivers League season a keeper, placing third in league and winning first-team honors. They hit it farther, chipped it closer and putted it home more efficiently.

In response, the Three Rivers League's best golfers walked off with all-league honors following their successful 2019 seasons.

In West Linn, four boys golfers won berths on all-TRL teams, that group led by Lion freshman Arthur Venderby. Venderby finished in a tie for third place in the league's individual standings, and in the process, earned a berth on the all-TRL first team.

"Arthur was an all-star freshman," said West Linn coach Danielle Ranallo. "He came in and immediately made an impact with his work ethic and attention to detail."

Venderby averaged 76.33 shots per round over the regular season and two-day TRL district tournament to tie for third in league, trailing just Lakeridge junior Aaron Buck — the Three Rivers League medalist — and his average of 75.8, and Lake Oswego senior Michael Zhao at 76.0. Canby senior Sam Krauss tied Venderby for third at 76.33.

Venderby and the Lions then went on to finish second in the Special District 2 Regional Tournament, win a berth to the Class 6A state tournament, and later, take 13th at state. Venderby placed fifth with a 74 at the regional, then shot 78-81—159 to finish 40th at state.

"He helped stir up a spirit of competition on the team and was always there to encourage the players on JV," Ranallo said. "He also has the unique ability to will himself to play better when he's struggling."

Also honored from West Linn were junior Jackson Forsyth (second team), senior Sebastian Hardin (honorable mention) and senior Hunter Johnson (honorable mention).

Forsyth won his spot by averaging 80.0 shots per round over the regular season and two-day TRL district tournament, finishing 10th overall in league. Hardin was close behind in 11th in the TRL after averaging 80.33 shots per round in league and at district.

At state, Forsyth shot 83-78—161 to place 44th while Hardin shot 79-84—163 to tie for 52nd.
