Wilsonville's Cole Kleckner, Nolan Thebiay, Trevor Antonson earn first-team all-state honors
The honors, awards and recognition just keep coming in for Wilsonville's best baseball players.
In the recently released Class 5A all-state honors, three Wilsonville players — Cole Kleckner, Nolan Thebiay and Trevor Antonson — all won berths on the 5A first team.
Together, that trio helped lead the Wildcats to a 15-3 record and a runner-up finish in the powerful Northwest Oregon Conference. For the season, Wilsonville went 19-9 overall, earned a berth in the Class 5A state playoffs and took the 10th seed into its first-round game, a 4-3 defeat at No. 7 Pendleton.
As tough as that first-round loss was, the rest of the state's coaches clearly recognized the contributions of Wilsonville's best.
"When my coach called me and told me I made first team all-state, I was super excited," said Kleckner, a junior outfielder. "That had been a goal of mine since I was little so to achieve that my junior year was unreal."
Senior teammate Nolan Thebiay, another Wildcat outfielder, joined Kleckner on the 5A first team.
"It truly is an honor to be selected for all state," he said. "It's just one more thing that's great about senior year."
In similar fashion, Antonson — a senior shortstop who was previously named NWOC Player of the Year — also won a berth on the all-state first team.
"It was awesome being able to finish out my high school baseball career being selected as first-team all-state," Antonson said. "It's always been a goal of mine to receive that award."
For the year, Kleckner batted .386 with a .470 on-base percentage, a .561 slugging average, four doubles and three triples.
"This season … was an incredible experience," Kleckner said. "I was lucky to be a part of a talented group of guys led by some great seniors. Playing with this team will definitely be a highlight in my life."
Antonson, meanwhile, hit .397 with a .522 on-base percentage, a .795 slugging average, 11 doubles, three triples and six home runs.
Thebiay earned his spot by batting .397 with a .476 on-base percentage, a .671 slugging average, seven doubles, five triples and one home run.
"And (the year) was even better that I got to share it with my dear friend Trevor," Thebiay said.
